History

Founded in 1958, Raffles Hall is one of the earliest halls established in the National University of Singapore (NUS). Originally an all-boys hall at Nassim Road, Bukit Timah, it became co-ed in 1975 before relocating to the Kent Ridge campus in 1984, where it now stands on a site twice the size of its original home. With roots tracing back to Raffles College-one of the institutions that merged to form NUS-Raffles Hall was modelled after the collegiate traditions of Oxford and Cambridge, shaping its structure of Masters, Resident Fellows, and Common Room Committees. Though sharing the "Raffles" name with many institutions, Raffles Hall holds a unique identity grounded in rich heritage and community spirit.

Identity

Raffles Hall stands as a symbol of renewal, strength, and unity within NUS. Inspired by the Double-headed Phoenix, our emblem reflects rebirth, determination, and the proud legacy of the Raffles family. Guided by the values of courage, honour, and service-embodied by the Tiger, the Sword, and the Crown-Rafflesians uphold the Raffles Spirit with pride and purpose. Rooted in a heritage of excellence and driven by youthful energy, Raffles Hall continues to soar to greater heights, united in loyalty and community.
